Can I Run WhatsApp on Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer that’s small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It is capable of running multiple operating systems, including Linux, Android and Windows 10. While the Raspberry Pi does not come with WhatsApp pre-installed, it is possible to install it on the device if you know what you’re doing.

WhatsApp is a messaging application developed by Facebook and has become one of the most popular platforms for communication. It has been available on smartphones for quite some time now and has recently been made available for desktop as well. Unfortunately, there isn’t an official version of WhatsApp for Raspberry Pi yet but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

If you want to run WhatsApp on your Raspberry Pi, you’ll need to install an unofficial version of the app.

There are two main options for this: WebWhatsApp and Whatsie. WebWhatsApp is an online version of WhatsApp that can be accessed through any web browser. It looks and behaves just like the official app but requires an active internet connection to work. Whatsie, on the other hand, is an unofficial desktop client for WhatsApp that can be installed on Linux-based devices such as Raspberry Pi.

Installing WebWhatsApp

To install WebWhatsApp on your Raspberry Pi, you’ll need to download and install Chromium or Firefox web browsers from apt repositories:

  • For Chromium:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install chromium-browser

  • For Firefox:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox

  • Next:

Once your browser has been installed, open it up and go to https://web.whatsapp.com/. You will then be prompted to scan a QR code with your smartphone which will link your device to the web version of WhatsApp.

  • Finally:

Once you have scanned the QR code, you will be able to access all of your WhatsApp contacts from your Raspberry Pi.

Installing Whatsie :

To install Whatsie on your Raspberry Pi, first make sure that Python 3 is installed by typing in python3 -V . If it is not installed, type in sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install python3 .

Once Python 3 has been installed, use pip3 (Python package manager) to install Whatsie by typing in sudo pip3 install whatsie . Then launch Whatsie by typing in whatsie . You will then be prompted to scan a QR code with your smartphone which will link your device to Whatsie.

In conclusion, yes it is possible to run WhatsApp on a Raspberry Pi using either WebWhatsApp or Whatsie. Both methods require some technical knowledge but are relatively easy once setup correctly. With either option you should be able to access all of your contacts from the comfort of your own device!
