Did Amazon Discontinue Prime Pantry?

Amazon Prime Pantry, the delivery service that allowed customers to order non-perishable groceries and household items and have them shipped directly to their homes, was discontinued on March 9th, 2021. This decision came as a surprise to many customers who found the service useful for stocking up on items such as canned goods, paper products, laundry detergent, and other household items without having to make a trip to the store.

The closure of Prime Pantry is part of Amazon’s larger strategy of focusing on its core services and eliminating peripheral services that weren’t generating enough profit. The company had already discontinued other services such as Amazon Restaurants and Amazon Home Services in the past few years in an effort to streamline its offerings.

Prime Pantry had been around since 2014 when it launched as an exclusive benefit for Amazon Prime members. Customers could order grocery items from a selection of over 5,000 products ranging from pantry staples like pasta and canned vegetables to snacks, beverages, and even pet food. Customers were able to buy items in bulk with discounted prices for ordering multiple items at once.

The discontinuation of Prime Pantry has been met with disappointment by many customers who appreciated the convenience of having groceries delivered directly to their homes without having to go out shopping at the store or stand in long lines at checkout.

However, Amazon has stated that they are not completely eliminating grocery deliveries from their platform and will continue offering their two-hour delivery service through Prime Now for both perishable and non-perishable groceries and household items. This service is currently available in select cities across the US but is expected to expand soon.

Amazon has also begun expanding its Fresh Grocery delivery service which delivers fresh produce, dairy products, meats, seafood, baked goods and other perishables directly to customers’ homes. This service is currently only available in select markets but is expected to expand further in the near future.

In conclusion, while it is true that Amazon has discontinued Prime Pantry due to its focus on core services that offer greater profitability potential for the company, this does not mean that customers will no longer be able access groceries via Amazon’s platform going forward. Customers can still enjoy two-hour delivery through Prime Now for both perishable and non-perishable goods as well as Fresh Grocery delivery service for fresh produce in select markets. Ultimately then, it can be said that while Prime Pantry may have been discontinued by Amazon but its grocery delivery services are still available though differently than before.
