Netflix and Dr Strangelove
Netflix is an American streaming entertainment service that has been around since 1997. It provides millions of subscribers with access to a wide variety of films, TV shows, documentaries, and more.
One of the most beloved films on Netflix is Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 film, Dr Strangelove. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest comedies ever made, and it has been praised for its sharp satire of Cold War politics.
Dr Strangelove follows an American military general who orders a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union without authorization from the President. It stars Peter Sellers in three distinct roles – an American military officer, the British RAF officer assisting him, and the titular ‘Dr Strangelove’ – as well as George C. Scott as General Buck Turgidson and Slim Pickens as Major ‘King’ Kong. The film features iconic scenes such as the Doomsday Machine and Major Kong riding a nuclear bomb.
Netflix offers a selection of Stanley Kubrick’s films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Lolita, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut – but unfortunately Dr Strangelove is not among them. Despite this omission, Netflix does have several other classic comedies which may be just as entertaining. These include Monty Python’s Life of Brian, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.
While Netflix does not currently have Dr Strangelove available for streaming or download, there are several other ways to watch this classic comedy. The film can be rented or purchased from Amazon Prime Video or iTunes Store; it can also be found on Blu-ray or DVD in many stores. Alternatively, fans can watch it for free on YouTube.
