Is Indigo Owned by Amazon?

The question of whether Indigo is owned by Amazon has been a topic of conversation for some time now. While there have been some rumors and speculations about Amazon’s possible ownership of the popular Canadian bookstore chain, the truth is that Indigo is not owned by Amazon.

Indigo was founded in 1996 by Heather Reisman and has since become one of the largest book retailers in Canada. It operates more than 200 stores across the country and also operates an online store, indigo.ca, which offers books, toys, home decor items, electronics and more. Despite speculation to the contrary, Indigo is not owned by Amazon or any other company.

Indigo is actually part of the Indigo Books & Music Inc., a publicly traded company on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company was founded by Reisman and her husband Gerry Schwartz in 1996 as a joint venture between their two companies – Reisman’s Chapters Inc. and Schwartz’s Onex Corporation. The two companies were later merged into one under the name “Indigo Books & Music” in 2001.

In addition to its retail stores, Indigo also operates Kobo e-readers and e-books which are sold through its online stores as well as through other retailers like Walmart Canada, Best Buy Canada and Target Canada. Kobo e-readers have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their low price point and ease of use.

Conclusion:

Despite some speculation that it might be owned by Amazon or another company, Indigo is not owned by any other company besides its parent company Indigo Books & Music Inc., which is a publicly traded company on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
