Is Into the Woods on Netflix?

Into the Woods is a 2014 musical fantasy film directed by Rob Marshall and adapted from the beloved Broadway musical of the same name, by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim. The film follows a baker and his wife, who wishes to have a child.

They are granted their wish by a witch who gives them an enchanted cow, a beanstalk, and four giant’s eggs. They must go on an adventure into the woods to retrieve these items before the witch can reverse her curse. Along the way they encounter characters such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack (of Beanstalk fame).

The film stars Meryl Streep as The Witch and Emily Blunt as The Baker’s Wife. It also features Anna Kendrick as Cinderella and Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince. Other notable cast members include Johnny Depp as The Wolf, James Corden as The Baker, Mackenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack, and Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood.

The film received positive reviews from critics for its visuals, performances, music score (including original songs) and its overall faithfulness to the original stage musical. It was nominated for three Academy Awards – Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Achievement in Visual Effects – although it did not win any of them.
