Necessary Roughness is an American comedy-drama television series that aired on USA Network from 2011 to 2013. The series stars Golden Globe-nominated actress Callie Thorne as Dr. Dani Santino, a Long Island psychotherapist who is unexpectedly asked to become the team therapist for a professional football team for the New York Hawks.

The premise of the show centers around Santino’s work with the team and her personal life, which become increasingly intertwined. As she works with players on their psychological issues, she also must deal with her own issues, including a divorce and a contentious relationship with her teenage daughter.

Necessary Roughness was created by Craig Shapiro and Liz Kruger, who previously worked together on another USA Network show called In Plain Sight. The series featured an ensemble cast that included Scott Cohen, Mehcad Brooks, Marc Blucas, John Stamos, Callie Thorne, Amanda Detmer and Rob Estes.

The series received generally positive reviews during its three-season run. Critics praised its witty dialogue and strong performances from the cast. It was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards in 2012.
