Is Only Lovers Left Alive on Netflix?

Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive is a mesmerizingly beautiful and artful tribute to the vampire genre. Starring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska and John Hurt, this film follows the story of two vampires in an eternal love affair. Set in the decaying city of Detroit, Jarmusch’s film paints a picture of a world at once both romantic and melancholic.

The film follows Adam (Hiddleston) and Eve (Swinton) as they reunite after centuries apart. Both vampires have coped with their vast ages in different ways — while Adam has secluded himself away from people, Eve has maintained her presence in the human world.

As they reunite, they are faced with an unexpected complication — Eve’s younger sister Ava (Wasikowska). Ava is a reckless vampire who disrupts their tender reunion with her reckless behavior.

The film is a visual feast that immerses us into an alternate reality where vampires thrive and immortal love is possible. The moody atmosphere is perfectly complemented by the lush soundtrack of bands like The Kills, Sqürl and White Hills that features prominently throughout the movie.

The acting performances are superb; particularly Swinton and Hiddleston who make for a truly entrancing couple onscreen. From their conversations about Shakespeare to their passionate embraces in darkened rooms, these two actors make it easy to believe in eternal love between two immortal beings.

Only Lovers Left Alive is an atmospheric piece of art that celebrates life’s beauty despite its inevitable end. It is both romantic and melancholic at the same time, making it one of those films you can watch over and over again without ever getting bored.

Unfortunately, Only Lovers Left Alive is not currently available on Netflix but hopefully will be soon released on streaming platforms so more people can enjoy this unique take on vampirism.
