It Chapter Two, the sequel to the 2017 horror film It, has been one of the most anticipated films of 2019. After a series of delays and a massive budget, it was finally released in September of this year.
Despite the massive hype surrounding its release, it was met with a lukewarm critical reception. The film follows up on its predecessor by continuing the story of The Losers Club as they come together 27 years later to defeat Pennywise once and for all.
The film features an impressive cast including James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon. Andy Muschietti returns to direct this chapter with Gary Dauberman writing the screenplay. This time around we also get to see more of Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise in his terrifyingly creepy clown form.
Despite the star-studded cast and Stephen King’s source material, It Chapter Two was met with mixed reviews from critics who felt that it spent too much time retreading old ground instead of exploring new ideas or pushing forward the story in any meaningful way. Despite this, it has gone on to become a box office success grossing over $400 million worldwide.
