Is TikTok Still Banned in the US?

TikTok, the short-form video-sharing app, has been a source of entertainment for millions of users globally. Although the app has proven to be an effective platform for gaining popularity, it has recently come under scrutiny from the US government. In response to these concerns, the US government has taken the drastic step of banning TikTok in the country.

The primary reason for this ban is due to security concerns regarding user data and potential censorship by the Chinese government. There are also allegations that TikTok is used as a tool of espionage by Chinese agents. This has led to increasing pressure from politicians and other influential figures to ban the app in the US.

The Trump administration announced an executive order on August 6th 2020 which prohibits any transactions with ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company. This includes transactions involving personal data and other sensitive information, such as financial transactions or advertising campaigns with ByteDance. The executive order was set to take effect on September 15th 2020 and would have resulted in a complete ban of TikTok in the US.

However, shortly after this announcement was made, ByteDance announced plans to form a partnership with Oracle Corporation and Walmart in order to keep its operations running in the US. This deal would create a new company called “TikTok Global” which would be majority owned by American investors and have its headquarters based in Texas. As part of this agreement, Oracle will become TikTok’s cloud hosting provider and Walmart will become an investor with a stake in TikTok Global.

With this deal being finalized, it appears that there will not be an outright ban of TikTok in the US after all. The deal still needs to be approved by both parties before it can be implemented but it seems likely that it will go through given its widespread support from both sides of politics. This will provide much needed relief to millions of users who were worried about losing access to their beloved platform.

Therefore, it can be concluded that as long as this deal between ByteDance, Oracle Corporation and Walmart is approved by both parties, then TikTok should remain accessible for users located within United States territory for now at least. Is TikTok Still Banned in The US? Despite initial plans for a total ban on TikTok operations within the United States territory, a partnership between ByteDance and Oracle Corporation/Walmart has been proposed which would keep this popular video sharing platform running within America’s borders if approved by both parties involved.
