WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. It’s used by millions of people around the globe to communicate with each other, sharing pictures, videos and other media.
However, recently WhatsApp has made some changes that have left users scratching their heads. One of the most controversial changes is the disappearance of WhatsApp Status – an update feature that allowed users to share a short status message with their contacts.
The Status feature was originally introduced in 2017 as part of an overhaul of the app’s user interface. It allowed users to set a short message or image as their ‘status’ which could then be seen by their contacts. It was a great way to quickly share updates with people without having to send a text message or make a call.
Unfortunately, in March 2019 WhatsApp removed the status feature from its main app, replacing it with a new ‘Stories’ feature that integrates with Facebook’s own Stories product. This new feature allows users to post photos and videos which will expire after 24 hours and are not visible to all contacts – only those who follow you on Facebook or have your phone number stored in their address book can view them.
The backlash against this change has been fierce and many users have expressed confusion and dissatisfaction at not being able to use WhatsApp Status anymore. Some have even gone so far as to delete their accounts in protest and switch over to alternative messaging apps like Telegram or Signal which still offer status updates as part of their regular service.
It remains to be seen if WhatsApp will bring back its old Status feature or if they will continue pushing for users to use Stories instead, but for now it looks like those who want to use WhatsApp for status updates are out of luck – at least until something changes.
Where Is WhatsApp Status? As things currently stand, it looks like WhatsApp Status is gone for good – replaced by Facebook’s Stories product instead. While this may be disappointing for some users, it doesn’t mean they can’t still share updates with friends and family – there are plenty of alternative apps out there that still offer traditional status messages as part of their services.
